Subtitle editor (claim mode)

When you’re previewing a subtitling (SLS) project, your editor window will look like the below.

1. The name of the project, as well as a saving icon next to it (which tells you if it’s saving or already saved your file). You can’t save anything in claim mode as you’re only previewing, so this is only relevant for Working mode.

   Below the title it tells you the duration of the file and the percentage that you have ticked off (and considered “reviewed” by you).

Making changes to your file will not do anything, and will lead to a Create version error pop-up.

1. The transcript, showing you the subtitles (in the center).
2. The video (sometimes partly covered by the Overview sidebar — this sidebar can be closed). The video will also display the subtitles that match the timecode.
3. The playback feature. It takes up the entire width of the editor and allows you to quickly go to a certain moment in the video. It also shows you the current timecode below it and the total length of the file. You can change the playback speed by clicking the 1.0x button.
4. The sound wave, showing you where which capsule is timed, along with a preview of its text. It also shows you shot changes usin vertical lines behind the soundwave blocks.
5. The technical specs of the subtitle capsules, showing you the capsule number, the starting and ending time codes, and the CPS and CPL limits, which will flash yellow if exceeded.
6. The Overview tab containing all the relevant information while previewing: the rate, the time to complete, the preview time left, the required language + flavour, and special guidelines. If there’s a style guide attached, it will show this below it.

7. The Reject button to reject the file, as well as the Claim button to claim the file. Clicking the downward arrow will allow you to report the file as unworkable.

Subtitle editor (working mode)

1. The customization options, including (from left to right):
   • The subtitle design tab (read below).
     • What does the styles tab do?
   • The sync options tab (read below).
     • What does the sync tab do?
   • A button to disable the video.
   • The more tab with miscellaneous settings (read below).
     • What does the More tab do?
   • A button to disable shot change snapping (it’s enabled by default).
   • A button to expand or collapse the sound wave (useful for smaller screens).
   • A zoom out button.
   • A zoom in button.
2. A section containing, from left to right:
   • A button to open up the style guide.
   • A quality checks report. Open it to see where there may be spelling issues.
   • Your time left. Clicking the downward arrow will allow you to add more time.
   • A magnifier button to use the find and replace feature.
   • The Submit button. Only press this when you’re ready to deliver the file.
